‘The Kitchen Picasso’

Hey there people!

Welcome to African fusion cooking by Sarah Udoh-Grossfurthner, ‘The Kitchen Picasso.‘

As most of you probably know, Pablo Picasso (October 1881-April 1973) was one of the greatest and most successful artists of all time.  His “uncanny” ability to depict paintings in a realistic manner was noticed even when he was in his teens. I may not be a painter (matter of fact, I would not know the difference between a cat and a dog if I had to draw one!) but those who have had the fortune to dine at my table have also spoken about my “uncanny” ability to make anything taste absolutely yummycious (is that even a word? – never mind, it’s one now).

First things first…
Dos & Don’ts of the site

Don’ts…

  • Quibble about the amount of oil used – saturated and non-saturated alike.
  • Quibble about the chili and the spices – if you want bland… head west (with due respect).
  • Be miserably miserly about donating toward the success of this site.

Dos…

  • Be adventurous and try out the recipes.
  • Recommend the site to friends and foes alike.
  • Comment favorably when a recipe pleases you.
  • Critique, but not criticize, a particular menu, if you so wish
  • Do use common sense and wash all your fruits and vegetables: it would be tiresome to repeat this with every recipe.

Above all…

At some point during the course of this love labour,
If you are sitting beside a hunky male (or a pretty delicious),
Dressed in a gown you will never again have a use for;
If your day is as bright as the starry host,
Because the Kitchen Picasso has added a boost,
If your children call you ‘Momsy,’ instead of plain ‘Mother,’
And grace you with smiles bright enough to light a burner,
If your spouse hugs you real tight and close,
Because of your life changing discovery of the Kitchen Picasso,
Then, don’t be a miser and a skinflint please, pretty please,
Dip your hand in your purse, your wallet, or anywhere else
You keep your dollar and your molar,
And donate toward the continuation of the work of the blogger
Who is responsible for the smiles, the hug, the good times,
And the gold band around your finger.

Ode to Food

If food be the sustenance of the body and the soul;
Cook on.

If it takes the senses on a journey of awesome discovery;
surround me with herbs from the tropics, and
spices from the orient;
psyche me up with the aromas of cinnamon and cloves,
cumin and anis;  of thyme and dill, mint and tarragon.

If it be the way to the heart of love;
envelope me with the musky perfume
of ntong, the African scent-leave; and
the tanginess of adusa, its spicy vibrant sister.

Let me be yoked to the heady fragrance of
smoked palm oil; and sooth with the calming
waters of rose flower, and vanilla essence.

If it be the harbinger of harmony;
Let me know the pleasures of the marrying of
the cumin and the coriander; the ginger and the garlic.

If food be the sustenance of the body and the soul;
Cook on.
