“And the peace of God which transcends all human understanding…” (Philippians 4:6-7, NIV). Ever wondered about this particular Bible verse, or encountered a situation which explains it in all of its awesome mystery? I have. Years ago, while I was still living in Nigeria, the Head Pastor of my church was killed, along with over a 100 others, in a terrible plain crash. It was a dreadful time, both for his family members as well as all the members of the church. The amazing thing, though, was that while everyone who went to commiserate with his wife, was wailing themselves sick, she on the other hand, was a picture of stoic strengths. With the result that she became the comforter of all those, (every single person!), who were supposed to comfort her. It was the most amazing sight. Years later, when she spoke about those moments at the presentation of her book of poetry, she said that though her whole soul felt as if it had been ripped apart, there was this strength radiating from inside of her, as though she was being literally held up by some unmovable force.

What I witnessed that day, went a long way to confirming the realness of God to me. There was no other explanation for the strength and beauty I saw in that woman, that day.
The “Peace of God” does indeed “transcend” all human understanding.
